| Personality:
| Quick witted and oft sharp-tongued, Lian is a goodhearted albeit conflict hardened young woman. On the heels of her father, she learned the skills S.H.I.E.L.D. prizes her for. This gave her a thorough love and preference for the bow, but also for the rifle. She enjoys the challenge of the difficult shot, the allure of the impossible. She's tough, determined, clever, and quite intelligent and above all, she does not accept failure. Her interests are her work and nothing else. Only one thing – one man – ever made any difference to that. It is to save him that she struggles. Anything else is an expendable. | Abilities:
| - Marksman:
Known for her skill with two weapons in particular, Lian is a master archer and sniper. She favors her father's old bow and a sniper rifle.
As an archer, Lian is one of the most skilled trick-shooters who has ever lived. She makes use of numerous techniques even her father didn't have owing to the fact that it was she who devised them. For example, she's developed a technique for bending the flight path of an arrow around obstacles which would have otherwise blocked the shot. By twisting the string of the bow just so while the arrow is knocked, she can force the arrow to fly in an irregular arc, making it curve around objects to hit other objects directly behind. Together with her arsenal of variable yield and effect arrows, this is a highly effective technique for many situations.
Lian was in her time continuum one of the most called upon snipers in S.H.I.E.L.D. She holds a record four mile moving target hit. Of course, she won't set that record for almost twenty-four years, but she did not leave her skills behind in the future. While she does not rely upon the rifle the way she does on the bow, she is incredibly handy with it and can do far better 'fine detail work', as she calls it, with the precision her rifle affords her.
- Martial Artist:
Trained by Black Widow and numerous other martial arts masters, Lian is an excellent hand-to-hand fighter. Though perhaps not as strong as many other notable S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Lian is swift and possesses a finesse that sets her a cut above the rest. She favors the combat hatchet or 'combatchet' as the future Henry Stark jokingly referred to his specially designed weapon for her, though it's more a compliment to her unarmed techniques than a focal point.
- Free Runner:
Assigned primarily as mission overwatch, Lian is relied upon to get to her position as fast as humanly possible. To that end, she spends much of every day practicing and training. She's become an excellent free-runner capable of moving across very ill-tempered terrain with great speed. Her flight foot has also scored her more than a few tasks as a hound to run down and capture what S.H.I.E.L.D. likes to refer to jokingly as Flashers, a joke at future Wally West's expense in reference to culprits who almost certainly are going to try and escape on foot. To date, no one without superpowers has ever outrun her.

Appearance: Height: 5'8” (1.72 m // 172 cm) Weight: 137 lbs. Eyes: Green Hair: Black __________________________ | A femme fatale in true form, Lian is as beautiful as she is deadly. Like her mentor, Agent Romanov, she dresses herself to S.H.I.E.L.D. standards, though she makes more than a mere effort to maintain every element of her appearance. In this way, she is well suited to play just about any part her duties might demand of her. A beautiful woman is welcome anywhere, after all.
Lian usually keeps her hair up in an elegant sort of bun or ponytail and usually secures it all with a simple pair of sticks. Of course, they aren't so much simple sticks as they are tools of one sort or other made to look the part. She wears a pair of sunglasses, a form-fitting S.H.I.E.L.D. suit, and a utility belt with a range of useful devices and tools. | Equipment: | - Bow and Arrows:
Item Name: Speedy Item Nature: Bow Item Description: Refurbished and upgraded several times over, Speedy is her father, Roy's old bow. The bow is forged from materials that provide the output power of a heavy pound draw bow with the smooth, light draw of a compound bow in a package that more accurately fits the profile of a simple recurve. With the help of future Henry Stark, it was also given the ability to collapse down to the size and profile of the grip alone. This allows it to be stored much more easily on Lian's belt.
Quiver: Not a quiver that would be recognized by most archers, Lian stores her arrows in a Quantum Absence Storage Device. In this case, a ring on her right index finger. The device has a distinctly technological look to it and links in to a control circuit installed in her brain. She's able to store hundreds of arrows inside the ring in the form of raw data and recall the arrows at will with a thought. This allows her to carry a great many more arrows than would be possible with conventional technology of this era. This has the added benefit of allowing her to carry a broader range of arrows. This same device stores her sniper rifle magazines. When she calls up one of the stored objects, they materialize from her fingertips almost magically.
- Sniper Rifle:
Item Name: Stark SR-17K Mk. II Item Nature: Sniper Rifle Item Description: Like Lian's bow, this rifle has been modified to collapse into a much smaller size for storage purposes when not in use. However, when in use, this weapon features a variable range scope which can serve as anything from a red dot sight to a hyper-long range precision scope with crosshairs which automatically adjust for windage. These features can also be manually controlled using the same control circuit which controls Lian's quiver. The rifle has a ten round magazine, semi and full automatic firing modes, and can accept and fire numerous other caliber rounds in as many if not more different magazines native to other common use weapons. This allows the gun to double as an SMG, assault rifle, or shotgun, though at great cost to accuracy, range, and power.
- Combat Hatchet:
Item Name: The “Combatchet” Item Nature: Ax // Combat Knife Item Description: Made to conform to designs originally fielded by S.H.I.E.L.D., the 'Combatchet', as it was called by its creator, the future Henry Stark, is a combat ax which collapses and can be used in its collapsed form as a very effective combat knife. Cored along the blade with a heavy but nearly unbreakable metal alloy created by future Stark Industries. It gives the device in both its forms the heft to be an effective weapon while maintaining the small scale profile of the item. Lian's father liked to joke that she could 'conduct the symphony orchestra with that thing...' That thing, of course, being the so-called Combatchet.
- Sunglasses & Utility Belt:
Item Name: Sunglasses Item Nature: Personal computer and epic-awesome shades... Item Description: Yet again a creation of the legendary Stark Industries of the future, Lian's sunglasses are an incredible exercise in high technology. With lenses that are actually a physically tangible holographic projection, her sunglasses have the look of slick (futuristic in this era) designer shades. However, these are actually a sophisticated personal computer system loaded up with future S.H.I.E.L.D.'s specialized HUD, a variant of the AI originally known as REGI. This HUD or Heads Up Display shows Lian a live feed of the contents of her quiver, the status of her equipment, can perform diagnostics on every item linked to her internal control circuit, and on top of it all keeps track of her physical condition. It also gives her detailed maps, active compass, heat scanning capability, and it lets her surf the internet and tap any live data stream she may come into contact with. It's also a cell phone... oh and a pair of sunglasses.
Utility Belt: Stocked with everything the S.H.I.E.L.D Agent of the future might need, Lian's utility belt is the standard equipment for agents of her day. She has replacement nano-arc reactors, pouches for every piece of hardware including a holster for her pistol (she just uses pistols of present day. They haven't improved much in the intervening twenty-five plus years.) She has ration stims (shots containing a cocktail of emergency nutrients and stimulants that dramatically improve the chances of survival for agents lost in harsh conditions), a materials scanner for diagnostics purposes, and a range of gadgets and small weapons such as flash disks (coin-size flashbang grenades), frag disks, and EMP discs for disabling electrical hardware. Like Black Widow, she makes use of Zap Gloves, gloves with arc-powered tasers built into the knuckles, and a wide range of throwing weapons. Her gear also includes one of Romanov's old favorites, the zip-line, a sturdy length of reinforced wire which can be used in conjunction with hand-to-hand combat as a weapon. This is stored in the right glove.

History: Born between two worlds, Lian is the daughter of Roy Harper, the good, and Jade Nguyen, the bad. It would have been three worlds, but there was ugly on both sides. Her father, the drug addict. Her mother, the career assassin. True to form, her mother wouldn't even let pregnancy stop her from fulfilling her contracts. In fact, Lian was born early while her mother was on a job in Washington D.C. It wasn't the most auspicious of births, but her mother loved her enough to know that there was no place for a baby in her world, the assassin's world. As soon as she was able, she gave Lian to Roy, her father, and left the raising of her chiefly to him.
Despite his new responsibilities, Roy found ample time to pursue justice as a member of the Teen Titans and then the Justice League. It wasn't until a close brush with a plot set down by Prometheus that he started keeping a closer eye on his daughter. Narrowly foiled, the plot would have destroyed numerous cities. It was only through the intervention of the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. that the crisis was averted in time. But with this newfound grade of protectiveness came an unseen byproduct – Lian began following in her father's footsteps. She began applying herself to the bow and to firearms. Her father's talent was present within her as well.
Roy, however, had other ideas. As his fear at the prospect of losing her to his just endeavors and the enemies he was gaining because of them reached an all-time high, he turned her over in part to the protection of S.H.I.E.L.D., calling in a favor with Nick Fury, an old acquaintance of Oliver Queen's. Director Fury entrusted Lian in turn to Natasha Romanov and Clint Barton, two of the most skilled agents S.H.I.E.L.D. had at its disposal. By then, then veteran Avengers had stepped away from their active roles in the group which had helped save Lian's life years earlier and were busy training new generations of agents. It was here that the son of Henry Stark, Johnathan first made Lian's acquaintance. Like many other sons and daughters of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most elite resources, they were all being trained by the best to be the best and Lian? Lian shined like a star above everyone else, just like John.
By age twenty, Lian and John were in a stable relationship, a dynamic duo who were also lethal lovers. They were shoe-ins for the A-Team of the Avengers and when John's grandfather, Tony stepped down, he was given his place in short order. Through no small stretch of finagling, Lian found her place amongst them as well. Trained by Roy Harper (who was himself trained by the legendary Oliver Queen), Clint Barton (one of the best archers who ever lived), and Natasha Romanov, AKA Black Widow, Lian was more than a choice, she was a necessity.
As overwatch for the Avengers, Lian gained a reputation for always being on top of things. She was the eyes and ears of the team, seeing everything and reporting to them upon it. As she had no need to be in close proximity to the mission area to provide support, she was the perfect candidate. Using the latest Stark tech, she defined herself quickly as one of the best S.H.I.E.L.D. had ever seen.
However, it wasn't to last. Nearing her 25th birthday, Lian, by then engaged to be married to John, was with her future father in law when the attack came. In a matter of moments, the explosion swept across the earth. Acting quickly, Henry Stark used a prototype transportation device to phase Lian into the past with one mission – stop the future from happening as it did. Now, deep in the past and with the help of a much younger Henry Stark, she is endeavoring with her every waking moment to do just that... ****Nexxus ID: Lane | |
